A.P. Moller – Maersk, a global leader in integrated logistics, has opened its largest distribution centre in the Philippines, marking a significant expansion in the region. The new facility, the Maersk Optimus Distribution Center, spans 10 hectares in Calamba, Laguna, and is positioned to become a key logistical hub for southern Luzon. Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Trade Secretary Cristina A. Roque attended the inauguration, underscoring the centre’s anticipated impact on the nation’s trade infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, President Marcos highlighted the importance of robust logistics in supporting economic growth and daily life, noting the role the Maersk Optimus centre will play in enhancing trade activities across Southern Luzon, particularly in Bicol and CALABARZON. The centre’s launch aligns with the government’s aim to bolster logistics and facilitate more efficient import-export processes in the region.
As Maersk’s flagship facility in the Philippines, Optimus is designed for both scale and efficiency. The distribution centre boasts a 76,000-pallet storage capacity and 75 loading docks, along with a state-of-the-art Fleet Operational Control Centre (FOCC) for managing Maersk’s trucking fleet. The FOCC is expected to optimise trucking operations, enhancing the speed and reliability of goods transportation throughout the region.
In line with Maersk’s commitment to sustainability, the Optimus facility is pursuing LEED certification, incorporating energy-saving technology, water conservation initiatives, and waste reduction practices. This green design reflects Maersk’s larger ambition to achieve net-zero emissions across its operations by 2040, leveraging new technologies and sustainable fuels.
The Optimus centre’s comprehensive logistics capabilities will support industries spanning consumer goods, food and beverage, healthcare, technology, automotive, leisure, and retail. Three of Maersk’s fast-moving consumer goods clients have already begun using the facility to streamline supply chains and boost operational efficiency.
Beyond its distribution network, Maersk operates an extensive logistics infrastructure across the Philippines, managing nearly 100 warehouses, providing air freight and trucking services, and running domestic trade with PH-flagged vessels. This latest addition in Calamba strengthens Maersk’s ability to deliver end-to-end logistics solutions, further supporting the country’s growing demand for integrated, resilient supply chains.
As an industry pioneer, Maersk’s footprint extends to over 130 countries, with a workforce of around 100,000 employees worldwide. The company’s vision for a sustainable future is backed by investments in cutting-edge logistics technologies and low-emission transport solutions, reflecting Maersk’s resolve to connect and simplify global trade while prioritizing environmental responsibility.
